Spring cleaning comes but once a year! Although, being home most of the time this year makes everyone think about spring cleaning more often. One of the most important spaces to maximize when you organize your home is your closet. Making your closet work for you, no matter what size it is, is key to making your morning routine simpler, your laundry easier and it will keep your wardrobe manageable. How to get started?
- Get rid of all the clothes in your closet that don’t fit
- Remove any clutter
- Give the inside of your closet a fresh coat of white paint and it will seem bigger
- If your closet has an upper shelf, make better use of it: stash folded sweaters or shoes in boxes up there; add square baskets to store items such as scarves and hats
- If your closet has a door, hang a mirror on the inside
- If your closet has no light, add a peel-and-stick battery-powered light or two
- Opt for cascading hangers so that you can hang 5 shirts in place of one
- Group your short clothing (like shirts) together to create floor space below for a stacking bin or a shoe rack
And hanging hooks on door backs or open spots for belts, handbags or jackets
Once you’ve organized your closet, maintain it to maximize your enjoyment! Every season, do a bit of reorganization to keep your closet system fresh.
